LGB Alliance Statement, 12 Feb 2020

Yesterday, Rebecca Long- Bailey, Angela Rayner, Lisa Nandy and Dawn Butler signed a pledge which states that LGB Alliance is a hate group.  This we categorically reject.

We are a group of lesbians, gay men and bisexuals who have spent our entire lives campaigning for equality for people with same-sex sexual orientation. Our supporters come from all backgrounds and include many trans people. We aim to advance the interests of lesbians, gay men and bisexuals at a time when we are under threat from concerted attempts to introduce confusion between biological sex and the notion of gender. Claims that we are a “hate group” and “transphobic” are utterly false and are simply a malicious tactic used to smear us and to discourage people from listening to our views.

We accept the biological reality of two sexes – female and male. Sex is not “assigned”. We want to protect children and young people from being taught unscientific gender doctrines, particularly the idea that they may have been born in the wrong body.

We believe that it is only through respectful, fact-based discussions with all interested parties that we can achieve workable, fair solutions for all. We invite all Labour leadership and deputy leadership contenders to meet with us to discuss how we can work towards achieving better outcomes for everyone.
