We Won

We are delighted that the tribunal found in our favour and that Mermaids and the LGBT Consortium have failed in their bid to remove our charitable status. #LGBAllianceWin

We still have £50,000 to raise to cover our legal costs. Please help us by clicking ‘Donate to our legal fund’ at the bottom of this page. We would be so grateful if you could help.

Back in 2022 we wrote,

“We are the only UK charity that focuses exclusively on the rights of LGB people and the decision by the Charity Commission to award us charity status is being challenged. We’re determined to defend our charity status and it is vital we win.

We are therefore raising funds to pay the necessary legal fees. If we have our charitable status cancelled and will no longer be able to do our job as effectively as we would like to.

We need your help to win!

Thank you for all your support both financially and by sharing our case and discussing its significance online and amongst friends.

Thank you for all the kind words of encouragement via messages, emails and at events.

Thank you for helping us win.

Defending Our Charity Status

Back in June 2021 a group of LGBT charities including Mermaids and LGBT Consortium launched an appeal against the Charity Commission over its decision to make us a charity.

We submitted an application to intervene in August 2021 as we felt it was vital to defend our charitable status and the right of same-sex attracted people to have an organisation solely focused on them.

Who are LGB Alliance?

“We are the only UK charity exclusively dedicated to promoting lesbian, gay and bisexual rights.”

“After the tribunal we can get back to doing what we want to do and what you want us to do, defend gay rights.”

“If we’re not speaking out there is no clear, courageous voice for LGB people.”

Why LGB Alliance is important?

What our supporters have to say

The LGBAlliance has every right to its charity status. People who are same sex attracted are suffering from the ideas of others that there is no such thing as same sex attraction because sex is not real.”

As lesbians we thank you for taking this cause forward. We will not be minimalised or silenced!”

As a gay man, I believe in same sex attraction and I do not believe in changing it to same gender attraction because it is homophobic. I believe in protecting kids. So, I believe that LGB alliance is very important for us”

Thank you for everything you do – it’s unbelievable it has come to this and that LBG people have to yet again organise to defend our rights as same sex attracted people. Thank you and good luck.”

“You are a much needed charity. As the B in LGB I support you wholeheartedly. This is a fight for democracy as much as anything.”

“LGB people need and deserve a charity focussed on their own issues. Keep fighting the good fight, we’re all behind you.”

“You’re the only organisation that is still supporting me as a lesbian. I can’t believe all the sweat equity we put into other orgs to then be betrayed. I wish I had more money to donate. Thanks for all your hard work for LGB people.”

“Disgusting that our ONLY same-sex advocate is being dragged through UK courts this way in 2022. Standing with you all the way.”

“LGB Alliance fulfills the requirement of a charity to be of public benefit. As a lesbian, and thinking about younger same-sex attracted people, I don’t see any other organisation representing and promoting our needs and rights.”

“In support of this vital fight for the rights of lesbians, gay men and bisexual people – and the recognition of our needs as a distinct community.”
