Everything we’ve fought for – and everything still to come – can live on through your legacy.
Together we’re making LGB history. Your legacy will ensure it can’t be rewritten.
Formed in 2019, LGB Alliance has already played a key role in protecting the rights of lesbian, gay men and bisexuals and we work hard to support LGB people to live happy and rewarding lives.
We don’t take our continued rights for granted and we are determined that tomorrow will be brighter than today. You can help to secure our legacy, and yours, by including LGB Alliance in your will. We’re working with Octopus to provide a simple, free will writing service. Click here to find out how to plan for your family’s future and for ours.
For the right to marry
As a young man I could never have imagined I’d be able to make a meaningful commitment to my partner that was recognised in law. I’m so grateful that the world has changed but I’m acutely aware that that attitudes to homosexuality are not fixed or guaranteed. I need LGB Alliance to be around in the future to keep fighting our corner. If our legacy helps makes that happen I’d be absolutely delighted.
For the right to adopt
We adopted our first child in 2002, almost as soon as the law changed to allow it, and the second a year later. There are so many children in care who are in need of a loving home and it’s been the joy of my life to build our family around them. Lesbians and gay men can make excellent adoptive parents. Our experience of feeling a little different means we can be empathetic towards kids who’ve often had a tricky start to their lives. We’re pleased that LGB Alliance speaks up for LGB adopters and for gay parents generally so I’m happy to support with a legacy.
For the right to speak up
I’ve always been proud to be a lesbian but for years now it feels like we’ve been pushed back in the closet. The organisations that used to support me care more about pretending that men can be lesbians or persuading tomboys that they might actually be boys. Lesbians seem inconvenient to them. I wish young lesbians had the same chance of friendship, community and pride that I had when I was young.
The only charity I know that actively supports lesbians to proudly assert our love for other women is LGB Alliance. I’m a big supporter and have been since the start. Leaving them a gift in my will is my pleasure.
For the right to equal treatment at work
When I’m at work I don’t want special treatment, balloons and a rainbow parade. Instead I want to be treated fairly and to know that the protected characteristic of sexual orientation is considered equally as important as the other eight. Gay people should be able to trust that our employers understand employment and equality laws and that they apply them accordingly. Lesbians and gay men have been somewhat left behind in recent years and the balance must be redressed.
LGB Alliance understand the principle of fairness and that’s something that chimes with me.
For the right to dignity
It’s sobering to think that there are still 64 countries in the world where homosexuality is a crime and that, even here in the UK where most people are tolerant of difference, people are attacked and beaten simply for being lesbian or gay.
Homophobia never seems to completely go away and we need an organisation like LGB Alliance to guard against its rise and to ensure gay people can live fulfilled lives just like everyone else. I will be including LGB Alliance in my will because I want future generations to be happy and safe.
