Right from the moment we started in 2019, we have had contact with people in other countries where the lesbian, gay and bisexual movement has been taken over by gender identity ideology. We have supported and liaised with those groups and individuals but today we have exciting news.

Together with 17 other national LGB groups, we are coming together to form LGB International. This new body will provide a global voice to represent the views of and advocate for LGB people at global level including to UN agencies and multinational institutions. It will support the development of national affiliates in each country so that LGB people can meet, organise and advocate, it will share information, skills and resources and debate current issues relating to LGB people.

ILGA – what used to be called the International Lesbian and Gay Association – no longer speaks for us. It pushes pronouns, surgery and destruction of same-sex spaces on countries where gay people still don’t have basic rights.

Frederick Schminke, the new Chair of LGB International said: “We risk losing our hard-won rights, and as public support plummets, traditional LGBTQ+ organisations have barricaded themselves up against all reason, fostering an atmosphere where no dissenting views are tolerated.”

Welcoming the launch, Renato Sabbadini, ILGA co-Secretary General (2008-2013) and Executive Director (2013-2018) said: “While we are proud of the advancement of human rights for everyone regardless of their sexual orientation and gender identity in the last decades, we cannot deny that the post-modernist denial of biological sex has opened a wound within the movement, at the expense of women, especially lesbians. The birth of LGB International is a welcome contribution to a debate, where the freedom to express one’s individuality does not come at the expense of sex-based rights.”
