LGB Alliance announces line-up for its second annual conference

“Great Strides for Pride” celebrates LGB fightback against censorship, institutional capture, and homophobia worldwide

LGB Alliance, the UK charity that stands for the rights of same-sex attracted people, today announces speakers and sessions at its second annual conference.

On 21st October the conference returns to the QEII Centre in central London to celebrate “Great Strides for Pride”, and examine the LGB fightback against censorship, institutional capture by gender identity ideology, and progress in the fight against homophobia worldwide.

Speakers at the event include Professor Kathleen Stock OBE, campaigner and journalist Julie Bindel, Stonewall co-founder Simon Fanshawe, barrister and lesbian rights campaigner Lucy Masoud, Stonewall Riot veteran Fred Sargeant, and academic Shereen Benjamin, who was abused and no-platformed by staff and students at Edinburgh University for speaking out on women’s rights.

Main session highlights from this year’s conference include:

  • Captured – examining how institutions, businesses and other organisations have been captured by homophobic gender identity ideology that denies same-sex attraction, and how LGB people are fighting back
  • Social Media – Back from the Brink – a no-holds-barred look at the dark underbelly of social media and its impact on young LGB people. The session will examine online grooming by influencers including those counselling young and impressionable viewers to undertake dangerous, unnecessary and permanent medical treatments.
  • Tackling Homophobia Worldwide – this panel draws on the experiences of speakers from around the globe who will discuss challenges they face as LGB people in countries where homosexuality is hidden, forbidden or even illegal, and how we in the UK can work with them to drive real and lasting change.

Supplementing the main sessions will be a range of lively breakout sessions and interactive Q&As with live voting. These include The Politicians’ Panel, which asks how our parties and elected representatives can win LGB votes; Science Under Attack, examining how gay and lesbian teens are particularly vulnerable to gender identity ideology, in many cases leading to lifelong medicalisation; and Workplace Q&A, which investigates the future of equality at work. There will also be the chance for attendees to put their questions to LGB Alliance co-founders Bev Jackson and Kate Harris.

“It’s been an incredible year for LGB Alliance and its supporters around the world and it’s hard to overstate the impact that we, a small, largely volunteer-run group, have had on the national conversation around LGB rights,” said Kate Barker, Managing Director of LGB Alliance. “We’ve campaigned against the horrors of the medicalisation of children. We’ve kicked back against compelled speech and fought for the right to say, with pride, that we are same-sex attracted. We’ve challenged insidious groupthink and the ideological capture of institutions and disrupted the homophobic narrative that insists that gender matters more than sex.

“Conference will be a rousing celebration of all we’ve achieved, but it will also recognise the new threats that face us,” continued Barker. “We must continue to challenge compelled speech or beliefs based on fantasy and feeling, and recognise that ‘If sex isn’t real there is no same-sex attraction’. We care about children and young people and will not allow another generation to suffer unnecessary medicalisation and surgery just because they are likely to be LGB. We are confident of the future for LGB Alliance around the world, so we proudly present another fantastic conference to bring us together and plan our next steps.”

Tickets are already on sale. Tickets are offered at reduced prices for students and senior citizens, as well as free ‘plus one’ tickets for disabled people who may wish to bring a helper. We are also offering free tickets to those who simply would not be able to attend otherwise.
